Miss Ruth Catering is more than a business. It is a story of resilience, faith, and the enduring power of food to bring people together.
I was raised in the rural South, where life was rooted in the land and strengthened by community. As a young girl, I worked in the cotton fields, learning early what it meant to labor with dignity and persevere with purpose. Those humble beginnings shaped a spirit of excellence, discipline, and unwavering commitment — values that live at the core of everything I do today

The Turning Point
The Turning Point
Life took me to Chicago, where I found purpose both in the skies — working with Midway Airlines — and in the pews of my church, where I served faithfully. When duty called me back to Detroit to care for my ailing mother, I answered without hesitation. It was during that season that my spiritual leader Daniel and I built something neither of us expected — what started as a small gathering in his living room grew into a flourishing church family. In times when resources ran thin, we leaned on what we knew: our hands, our faith, and the power of a home-cooked meal. Food became the foundation that held our congregation together and kept our community fed.
Daniel was more than a spiritual leader. He was my brother, my mentor, my pastor, and the truest companion I have ever known. When he passed in 2019, the world as I knew it shifted. Grief settled in deep, and like so many, the isolation of the pandemic that followed made the silence even heavier.
ACT 3
The Rise
The Rise
But even in that stillness, purpose found its way back to me.
In 2021, with little more than faith and determination, I set up a small food stand at Eastern Market. It began simply, with hot dogs and a hope to reconnect. Soon, the menu — and the mission — grew. Dishes like rich, comforting meatloaf, buttery garlic mashed potatoes, bold jerk chicken, and beloved Chicago-style classics became staples. More importantly, so did the relationships.
What started as a small stand has since blossomed into a respected catering service, trusted by clients, embraced by the community, and built on genuine care.
At Miss Ruth Catering & Events, food is not just prepared — it is crafted with intention. Every dish carries a piece of my story, my heritage, and my commitment to excellence. This is service rooted in love, presented with grace, and delivered with consistency you can trust.
I believe in showing up fully, serving wholeheartedly, and creating experiences that feel both elevated and deeply personal. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a large celebration, my goal is always the same: to make every guest feel seen, welcomed, and cared for.
